THE BUSH BLAIR THEORY OF WAR

By Peter Fredson

July 17, 2005

President Bush recently addressed soldiers at Fort Bragg, North Carolina regarding his war on Iraq, as follows:

“The soldiers and families of Fort Bragg have contributed mightily to our efforts to secure our country and promote peace. America is grateful, and so is your commander in chief. The troops here and across the world are fighting a global war on terror. The war reached our shores on September 11, 2001.”
“The terrorists who attacked us and the terrorists we face murder in the name of a totalitarian ideology that hates freedom, rejects tolerance and despises all dissent. Their aim is to remake the Middle East in their own grim image of tyranny and oppression by toppling governments, by driving us out of the region and by exporting terror.”
“To achieve these aims, they have continued to kill: in Madrid, Istanbul, Jakarta, Casablanca, Riyadh, Bali and elsewhere. The terrorists believe that free societies are essentially corrupt and decadent and, with a few hard blows, they can force us to retreat. They are mistaken.”
“After September the 11th, I made a commitment to the American people: This nation will not wait to be attacked again. We will defend our freedom. We will take the fight to the enemy. Iraq is the latest battlefield in this war.”
“Many terrorists who kill innocent men, women and children on the streets of Baghdad are followers of the same murderous ideology that took the lives of our citizens in New York and Washington and Pennsylvania. There is only one course of action against them: to defeat them abroad before they attack us at home.”

And, in England today, Tony Blair was assuring the public that he too has a theory of war, as follows:

LONDON -- Prime Minister Tony Blair warned yesterday that an "evil ideology" of Islamic extremism was bent on spreading terror through the West, and authorities on three continents widened investigations into the London terrorist bombings, in which the number of people confirmed dead rose to 55.
“In a speech in central London, Blair said authorities were facing an "evil ideology" in their struggle against Islamic terrorism.”
"The greatest danger is that we fail to face up to the nature of the threat that we're dealing with," he said. "And what we are confronting here is an evil ideology . . . It is a battle of ideas, of hearts and of minds, both within Islam and outside it."

It is reassuring that both leaders now are on the same page. Like George Bush has been saying since he was given his office by the Supreme Court: “EVIL IS LURKING.” And it is his sworn duty as a baptized Christian to not only identify evil, but to root it out, extirpate it, destroy it, even if it bankrupts the ordinary taxpayer, and forces Bush to kill people.

We know that corporations will make vast fortunes in wartime. We know that religion flourishes best in time of war. We know that soldiers do their duty and if they must die, so be it. So, it’s a win-win situation.

Up until now Tony Blair was going along with whatever theory of war Bush had to offer in the interests of the good ties between both nations, and he bought into Bush Weapons of Mass Destruction and Nuclear Intentions of Saddam theories.

Now that these theories have been shot down, exposed as lies, both leaders resort to an old standby, a Good versus Evil morality play, which every True Believer will support whole-heartedly.

It is a simple explanation, tailor-made for simple-minded people, and will sell like hot-cakes. “Evil Lurks In The Hearts Of Men, Especially Saddam Hussein, And If We Can’t Catch Osama Bin Laden Then We Will Extirpate Saddam.”

Bush and Blair are good and Saddam is evil. Our people are good, and theirs are evil. They are murderous people using a mistaken sacred book and an even more mistaken God for their evil schemes, while we have a better god, a better book, and we are righteous. We can’t talk to them because they are crazy with hatred, filled with murderous thoughts against freedom and democracy.

Both Bush and Blair believe that by invading Iraq and killing Moslems there, we can stop evildoers from coming over here. Put flypaper in the spot you want to catch flies, even if there weren’t any flies there to begin.

The fly-paper will attract flies from surrounding areas, and soon the entire world will be free of flies.

Then you can put in your permanent bases, huge embassy, hordes of proselytizers, ruthless venal contractors, and some corporations that were lucky enough to have a connection with the Bush people will make huge fortunes to reconstruct a nation that they have largely destroyed.

War is good business, and is worth getting a few thousand soldiers killed, especially as none of them are your own children. And we are righteous.

Then you can spread out from Iraq and control the entire Middle East, and .. if you are aggressive enough… rule the world. But never apologize.

Never address any grievances. Never accept any blame. The Buck never stops in your office. Diplomacy stinks.
The UN stinks. Aggression, bullying, preemption, work.

Bush and Blair both can strut, swagger, chortle, glad-hand, even smirk .. because everything is going their way. Their new theory of war is undebatable, unassailable, immune from examination, and can be adapted to any circumstances.

Forget national failure, forget corruption, forget massive deficits, forget loss of heavy industry, forget environmental damage, forget civil dissent and repression, forget poverty, forget high gas prices, forget homelessness, forget damaging leaks, forget Abu Gharib and Gitmo, and by all means give that draft-dodging patriot Karl Rove a big kiss. He earned it.

Now Christian soldiers can march out bravely, bearing crosses, without any dissent, because Bush and Blair are GOOD, never lied or made a mistake, have God on their side, and need no diplomacy to cope with those illogical murderous Muslims.

Millions of people will buy this ancient religious drama and rest smugly in their beds.

We hope no kids mistakenly get into the fly-paper.
